In November of 2022, we hosted a world usability day event for all of Sherwin Williams. There were well over 500 participants in this half day event. Our User Experience team riffed off of the annual theme of ‘Health’ and focussed on the health of our products at Sherwin. The time was divided into two parts; Preventative Care – Ensuring Healthy Products from the Start and Triage – Diagnosing Unhealthy Usability.
Each section created engaging learning moments with polls, discussions, and video content. The event ended with an interactive live usability test. We recruited one of our business leaders to browse through two competitor sites while the audience observed and took notes based on the user’s behavior. After which, one of our senior researchers led a discussion on what they all observed. It was a very powerful way to demonstrate the value of good usability in our products.
One of the event attendees commented afterward: “I’ve been to several of these events by the UX team and I think we are really fortunate to have them at Sherwin. Everyone is very professional, knowledgeable and skilled at what they do, and a pleasure to work with. They bring a lot to every project and interaction they are involved with. Fantastic work team!”
I am already looking forward to next year’s WUD event!
