The very nature of employment is changing, impacting most aspects of the workplace including; colleague relationships, employee benefits, working styles, etc. Currently, most retirement plans are designed for an old structure of long-term, deep commitment in the employee / employer relationship… but that is all changing.
How will employment change in the future, and how will retirement plans adapt to these changes?

Increased number of career changes. “With an ever increasing number of different career choices on offer, approximately 30% of the total workforce will now change jobs every 12 months.” By the age of 42 you will probably already have had about ten jobs. [DOL]
Gig economy. 36% of the US labor force are gig workers.

The MiDE Design Lab at Bucknell University partnered with a one of top investment companies in the nation to explore this topic.
This engagement was a 5-10 week project within the Design Realization course. The MiDE students provided a youthful perspective on the topics tackled, while the organization’s team provided expertise and guidance along the way. This project provided the students with a unique hands-on experience working with real design challenges facing industry today, helping to prepare them for their future.
